Run 2
Danny Parks flowed the ramp and locked in a great lookdown, then missed his peg on a grind, and went down. I saw Kevin giving him a pep talk, so he’ll be back for his 3rd run amped and ready. Josh Harrington dropped in again and did a double barspin to x up, grinded though the corners and did a barspin ice pick. Tom Stober was in next. He did a big no handed peg grab and slammed, hitting the flat bottom hard. I think Tom hurt the ramp, because it was shaking. Jeremy Fanberg went straight into a huge tailwhip, landed and went for a big 540 and knocked himself out cold. The medics came through the hidden hole in the bowl and rescued him. Achim followed pumping in way up in the air doing a beautiful alley oop lookdown, alley oop barspin and a manual attempt around the corner. He flew out, took a breather and dropped back in busting out another tailwhip riding it out, side saddle. Dave Brumlow flowed and worked the bowl next. He then rode the bowl sideways across the 40’ flat bottom into another clean 540.

Rob Nolli dropped in, and I guess the camera man wanted to see what it was like to drop in too, so he dropped in without a bike, but instead a beta cam, falling all the way into the flat bottom of the bowl. He was definitely shaken up. After the cameraman was rescued Rob dropped back in. His run consisted of a no hander, x-up, a manual into a smooth nose wheelie into a fufanu and then a barspin-to-barspin back. Jimmy was in next, blasting nice inverts, clearing 10 feet easily. He worked the bowl and I think he started to glow half way through his run. He threw down great Indian airs and a clean 540. O.B.G. (One Big German) was in next. Stephan has some of the best tomahawk airs around. He did a double barspin to a Voelker fly out. He came back for more, grinding into a decade air right near the corner of the bowl. Next was Kevin Robinson. Blo Hyme was blasting through the PA and you could see Kevin’s eyes turn red. He dropped in and carved over the tombstone, pumping up to a huge 8-foot 540. The wind caught him and he clipped his foot saving himself on the way in. He wasn’t done yet. He did a big carving flair and slid out, ending his run right with the song.
3rd Run
Danny was up first, representing his hometown, the Bronx. He peg slid into the corner, linking some back-to-back variations as Eric B was pumpin’ in the background once again. Josh Harrington was in next. He’s 18 years old and smooth as you can get. He did a double barspin and slapped it back to a reverse barspin….You heard me right….whatever. He threw down a tailwhip and was flowin’ both ways. Tom Stober took his last 2 runs, and was a bit shaken up from a no-handed front peg grab slam last run, so he sat out his third. Achim slammed a Red Bull and cranked another huge lookdown, then did a barspin to x-up. It was the first one he had tried in his life and pulled it clean. He rested and did an x-up no footer then slammed on a tailwhip. You would think that was all he could take, but he got up and manualed the corner of the bowl. Brumlow dropped in for his last run and did a lookdown to x-up, a big nice invert 540 an ice pick slide and ended it smooth. Rob Nolli dropped in, flying his Orlando, Florida colors and went straight into a barspin-to-barspin back and a perfect flair, and then did a nose wheelie all the way across the ramp to a Canadian pick and then spun his bars on the way back into the ramp. This was one of the toughest lip tricks I have ever witnessed and he pulled it like it was nothing. Wow. Jimmy Walker is in the 30-year-old club and proved the-older-the-better theory. He blasted in the 12 foot zone, and ruled this jam. He did every variation, back-to-back, both ways and worked the corner. He did everything then into a one handed 540, linking it into another 540 back-to-back-to back-to-back-to-back……ending it strong.

There were 2 riders left. Stephan Geisler was in next. He did a big one-footer, a stretched no- hander, a beautiful tomahawk, can can lookback, a double barspin, and a huge 540 ending it with a big 540 sliding out. Kevin Robinson was the final rider. He was focused and ready to rip the ramp apart. He pumped into another huge 540 and then into a corkscrew/flair and somehow clipped his front peg on the coping. He came back and did a flair/corkscrew, landed and carved into the perpendicular wall of the bowl straight into another flair. That is the first time that line has been and probably ever will be done. Kevin Robinson took the gold.
Next was my demo. I did a few runs and then I decided I wanted to pump an air as high as I could into a flair. I did the first one and slid out, so I got back up and tried it higher. This time I looped out and hit hard, knocking my wind out, slamming on my back and I hit my head hard enough to see stars with a short black out. It took me some time to let my body calm down, but I got back up and pumped back up to the top of the ramp. Luckily I could still ride, so in hopes I would end the day on a good note I dropped in and did another flair and luckily landed it and called it a day.

…and that will end it for the Philips Fusion Soul Bowl in Miami. I got to watch the skateboard legends rip up the vert bowl, the bikers pulling it all out in gladiator style and got to session with Moffet, Furlong and paddles Patch on top of all that.
