Biker's Paradise... in Texas?
After some good riding at the Lone Star Park, we drove Losey to the
airport, and we went on to Austin. We arrived in Austin, but before we
got to our hotel we stopped off at the Intellect Park. I fell asleep in
the car as everyone was riding and woke up to a gang of locals. I
grabbed my bike and did two airs but hung up so bad I flattened my wheel
and almost slammed. I decided maybe I shouldn’t have rolled out of bed
straight into a vert ramp, so I packed my bike up, and called it a
night.
We all loaded back up in the rig and went downtown to our hotel.
It was Friday night so we had to check out the local scene on 6th
Street. It was like a carnival. We got to the Ritz and Ruben and I
were looking for some grub, so we went to this pizza place near the hotel.
When we went to pay, the guy hooked us up,
and wouldn’t accept our money. We then went into the Ritz and
everything was on the house. We saw Sheps, and he tells us he told
these guys we were coming. Austin is ruling. It’s some kind of biker’s
paradise. I hear that James Shepherd owns Austin, and now I don’t
question it.
We wake up the next morning and the weather is looking gloomy. It had
been raining the last 4 days, so 9th Street dirt jumps are out of the
question. We went to the infamous Mexican resturant, Chuy’s, and chowed
down on some fine Mexican cuisine. We decided to go to Patty’s backyard
vert set up where Pat (Pat Miller) and the Gute’s (Kevin Gutierrez)
play. The ramp was wet, our shoes were packed with mud and the sun was
setting. We rode hard, and just tried to overcome all the elements. It
was much, much fun, and my rib was holding its own, so the two days off
did me good.
The ramp was about 24’ wide, I went for a flair, and when I
landed it, I went off the side of the ramp. I had no brakes and my feet
were muddy and wet, so I could barely get my bike to stop by putting my
foot in the front tire. Somehow it worked and I missed this big pile of
trees. After the sun set, we just chilled out then went back to our
hotel. We have a flight booked to go to Los Angeles. We are
going to tour Activision (the producers of my game), check out Cory’s
new set up, and hopefully get a hold of Bob Burnquist and check out his
new vert oasis I’ve been hearing about. I’ll get back with you then.
Over and out- Mat
