Here Come the X Trials
Bristol, Conn. - Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, Texas, a suburb of Dallas-Forth Worth, will host the X Trials from May 18-20.
The X Trials is a two-stop competition featuring more than 250 athletes from around the world competing for medals, prize money and an open invitation to the seventh annual X Games, the world's premier action sports competition, Aug. 17-23 in Philadelphia, Pa. The X Trials will also stop in Bristol, Conn. from June 15-17.
The free-to-the-public X Trials feature competitions in men's and women's park and vert aggressive in-line skating; flatland, park and vert bicycle stunt; and park and vert skateboarding. Original programming totaling 11 hours will air on ESPN and ESPN2. Accompanying the X Trials is the Xperience, an interactive village provided for spectators of all ages to test their skills in sportclimbing, bungy jumping and skating.
For the first time, in addition to the X Trials, ESPN and Lone Star Park will host the GPX Action Sports Charity Jam, Thursday, May 17 from 6-9 p.m. Get a sneak preview of the X Trials and see one time only world-class performances by marquee action sports athletes such as bmx rider Dave Mirra, skateboarder Colin McKay, in-line skater Fabiola da Silva and local Dallas in-line skating star Shawn Robertson. Athlete autographs, live music, appearances by local athletes and celebrities, gifts for the first 500 spectators through the gates and opportunities to win action sports prizes including a trip for four to the ESPN X Games this summer in Philadelphia makes the Charity Jam a great way to start the weekend. ESPN's event creation and management department owns and operates a variety of events in addition to the X Games, including the Winter X Games, Great Outdoor Games, ESPY Awards, X Trials, Tony Hawk Tour, B3 (Bikes, Blades and Boards) and more. The company recently announced plans for a major global expansion of the X franchise, with X Games qualifiers scheduled to be held on five continents and the debut of the X Games Global Challenge in 2002.
