Dave Mirra Destroys Vert

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Dave Mirra may have owned the Bicycle Stunt Vert prelims on Friday, but he absolutely DESTROYED the competition in Saturday's final. Mirra is riding like a man on a mission. Every air Mirra launched looked higher; every insane trick he nailed, he completely intimidated both the crowd and the competition today.

Mirra's first run was pretty phenomenal. He nailed a backflip over the channel, followed by a 540, some bar spins and peg grinds. He definitely was taking charge of the comp and leading the finalists. Mirra's last run blew the previous away. He threw a insane backside flair over and across the ramp channel followed by a wicked double-tailwhip and a no-handed Alley-oop-540 which landed him a overall score of 96.0 and much respect from the on-lookers. He also nearly hit a no-hander-grab-to-barspin 540, which dropped the jaws of every rider out there. Insane.

No-one could stop Mirra today.

Mirra looks poised to take care of his business again this year. The tricks are solid, he's riding healthy and aggressive and if this comp is any indication of the rest of the year, it looks as if no one is going to challenge him at all. He is riding just that tight.

Jamie Bestwick took home the second-place spot with some really charging runs. The Summer X Games gold-medalist just missed Mirra in the overall score but threw down some really sick runs. He finished with a score of 95.38.

Rocking out to "Rock the Casbah" by the Clash, Simon Tibron tried desperately to land almost back-to-back 900s but fell both times. The Mongoose rider did hit a sick no-handed 540 and his overall height was impressive, but just not enough in the judges eyes today. His technical tricks were impressive as well.

Jamie Bestwick charged no-handed for first, but took second.

Overall, everyone rocked the vert ramp today. Mirra obviously came out on top but there were some impressive runs by Bestwick, Tabron, Miron and others. John Parker threw some sick double tails, Kevin Robinson rocked some wicked 540s, and recovering Rick Thorne had some killer tunes from his new band "All Scarred Up." Keep it real.

Another note: Anaheim Mayor Tom Daly handed out the trophies along with his son and his son's friends to the top three riders.

Official results:
1. Dave Mirra -- 96.0
