Da Silva, Mora and Yasutokos: Ones to Watch
Men's Vert
This is always a popular event with the kids. In-line has a strong international following and these athletes are the best of the best. The big story in Vert last year was the Yasutoko brothers taking the gold and silver medals at the Summer X Games. The two Japanese brothers have rock-star-like status among other Japanese and are definitely throwing together bigger runs than most of the In-liners out there. Look for these two to only get better this year. B3 Lake Havasu and B3 Louisville brought Cesar Mora two top three finishes, Mike Budnik grabbed a first place and Mark Englehart took a third place finish while the brothers Yasutoko finished one and two at Lake Havasu.
Men's Aggressive In-line Street this year at B3 is anyone's bet. Jeremy Pennacchini twice came second during the B3 tour, while Jaren Grob and Aaron Feinberg split the first place finishes in 2000. Pat Lennen and Brian Shima both took third place at Louisville and Lake Havasu respectively. Having said that, Sven Boekhorst, Jaren Grob and Sam Fogarty finished first, second and third at the Summer X Games in 2000 so they cannot be counted out. Women's Vert On the women's side of things it's all about Fabiola da Silva. This Brazilian bombshell lays claim to first place just by showing up. Barring a big fall or some catastrophic event she's going to take the B3 series, and probably the Summer X Games again this year. At B3 Louisville last year, Fabiola went home with first, while Katie Brown took second and Stephanie Tolle finishing in third. B3 Lake Havasu had Fabiola again blowing away the field followed by Robing Miller and Neda Gane.
Fabiola completed the trifecta last year by taking gold at the Summer X Games, followed by Martina Svobodova, and surprise, surprise Kelly Matthews. Look for Matthews to make a run at Da Silva this year but Fabiola is so on top of her tricks, we don't think Matthews will place higher than second. Da Silva is just that good.
