Matt made a name for himself in competition by pulling a frontflip then a backflip, back to back. There is more to his riding than that, though. Matt is a ripping street rider as well as a force to be reckoned with on the dirt jumps. He joined the Tony Hawk Gigantic Skatepark Tour at the Real Ride Skatepark in Salt Lake City and ripped up the street course.

Matt hasn't done extremely well in contests this year. His seventh place finish at XG '99 qualified him for XG 2000 after Brian Foster declined his invitation due to injuries. Matt says, "I go 100 percent all the time. I hate holding back in competitions just to earn points. I guess it's because I like to go for it. I am usually a big crowd pleaser."
