With her win at the Billabong/MSF pro in early July at Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa, Megan Abubo broke Layne Beachley's 16 month strangle hold on the ASP # 1 world ranking. Abubo's reign on top, however, was short lived as Beachley secured her third world title on November 6, leaving Abubo in 2nd, her highest finish ever on the World Championship Tour.

I started seventh on the tour this year and I got second so I'm pretty happy with that."
